Webcomic App Review - Coolmic
Should you use this app? Read to find out.
I mentioned last week that I have read manhwa/manga on different apps. I also mentioned I was going to do reviews of the ones I’ve tried. In my reviews, I’ll talk about how it feels to use these apps and how much it costs to read the comics, etc. I’ll end the discussion of each app with Pros and Cons from my experience trying them out. So here’s the one I used the longest out of the six.
What is Coolmic?
This is a site that offers manga in webcomic form. It appears that this is an English-language subsidiary of a Japanese anime and manga digital distributor called WWWave Corporation. There isn’t a formal app on Google Play or Apple. However if you log into the site https://coolmic.me on your phone browser, you may get a pop up allowing you to create an icon on your phone. This makes it easier for you to get to the site without opening your browser.
I’ll have to forewarn you. This particular site features a lot of NC-17/Adult/18+ content. There is of course all-age appropriate content (like Fluffy Paradise), but this site does include plenty of hentai/ecchi content. For those not familiar with those terms, it basically means it’s adult or pornographic. With that said, you can read a number of manga you can’t really find on other sites.
Cost
The first chapter of all the manga are free. It gives you a chance to decide whether you are into this story or not. Coolmic’s uses “tickets” as their internal currency system. The manga vary in cost per chapter. They generally range from 6 to 8 tickets per chapter. You also can purchase a few anime titles, but of course they’re hentai content. Anime titles cost 50 tickets an episode.
Tickets can be purchased in monthly ticket plans or in ticket packs. They also have a rank system. Based on how much money you spend in a month, it puts you into a different rank the following month. For example: if you spend $40 in May, that puts you in the Bronze rank ($15-$44.99) for the month of June. Bronze rank means that tickets you purchase in June will cost 0.5% less than full price. At regular status, that means it costs $5 to purchase an anime episode. This also means that for $5, you can purchase 6 to 8 chapters depending on the manga.
There are usually deals happening. There are titles where some of the chapters will cost you less tickets than normal. Also there are some titles where extra chapters are available to free for a short time. However ultimately you’ll have to purchase the chapters at a later date.
My personal thoughts
You can find all-age ranges like Fluffy Paradise and teen appropriate content. However there really are a lot of porn comics on here. If you’re not interested in this sort of thing, the other apps I’ll be reviewing in this miniseries might work better for you.
Also their currency system is really complicated with this ranking system. Even if you hit platinum level (which is a whopping $150 in a month!), you’re only getting a 3% discount the next month. Which means instead of paying $5, you’d paying $4.85, etc. It is pretty easy for you to go crazy spending money for tickets. Granted you’ll see that’s the case for a bunch of these apps. Still, I just had to make that observation.
Considering a lot of the stuff on Coolmic is adult, I’m probably not going to do any reviews on here. At least not unless there are readers who are actually interested in Adult/porn/erotica manga. I know we’re adults here, but still not everyone is into that sort of content. There are probably a couple stories I could review because they’re not pornographic.
Have you tried reading on Coolmic? Would you actually try reading anything on here? Leave a comment.
