Welcome back to the latest installment of my reaction to Top Dungeon Farmer! If you are new to this publication, welcome! If you missed the last entry, you can read it here. This time I’ll be talking about chapters 26 to 30 of this manhwa series. If you haven’t already been reading it you can find it here. Though I do question why you’re reading this newsletter if you haven’t been following the manhwa.
This will be spoiling the plot of the manhwa. If you have no interest in this or don’t want to be spoiled, you’ll need to go to the web version of Substack and make adjustments to your e-mail notifications. With that said let’s get on with it!
Chapter 26
It’s pretty exciting to see that Sejun and the rabbits are expanding the farm to go beyond the limits of the underground cave. Now that Sejun has formed a relationship with the Mother Crimson Bear, he has a way to get out of the cave. Unfortunately the land near the cave is barren. Though it is fortunate he has been sweet potatoes. Tubers like sweet potatoes and regular potatoes generally do better in more difficult soil than other types of crops. It’s especially funny when the bear cub, Beh, ate the sweet potatoes they were using as seed potatoes.
The rest of the chapter was pretty entertaining as we follow Teo. Teo has his own self-interested side, which fits for being a merchant. He upgrades his bag, which is pretty handy since this means he can carry more product to sell. It’s also pretty amusing that the undercover officer Jeras is suspicious of Teo’s success as a merchant.
Chapter 27
It’s pretty entertaining to see how Teo continues to be an aggressive haggler after being successful with Sejun’s lesson. Even Jeras is slightly thrown off by it. It’s also pretty interesting that the straw hat Teo buys is possibly a special item, but what kind is it? We have to wait and see.
We get back the farm. Unsurprisingly the mother rabbit is now pregnant again with a second batch of rabbits on the way. It’s still weird to me that she’s already pregnant with more rabbits. Just a few chapters ago she had some kids, who are now adults working on the farm. But I suppose it’s just an exaggeration of how often and quickly rabbits actually reproduce.
It’s also really entertaining to see how Beh continues to misunderstand how things work. But he’ll get it soon! The other interesting thing is the chapter ends with the beehive and we see Queen Bee looking sad and concerned about a cocoon she has. Can I say a part of me wishes there was a chapter or something centered around the bees. They’re just background residents of the farm, but we don’t get as much about them. Am I the only one who feels this way? I also find it endlessly funny how the beehive is drawn as an upside down castle. This really makes me wish the novel was available in English.
Chapter 28
It’s pretty funny seeing the chapter start with a training session between Beh and Black Warrior rabbit. It’s truly funny to see how their little fight is training session, but also looks like they’re goofing around a bit.
It’s also interesting to see that the cocoon was a larva that wound up eating more royal jelly than it should. This is pretty similar to how actual honeybee life cycles work. A larva that will become a queen gets fed more royal jelly than other larva. This is apparently how they become queens. This really makes me wish there was at least a chapter or two focusing on what’s going on in the hive.
It’s also funny Teo’s misunderstanding of Beh’s presence at the farm considering a lot happened while the cat was off selling and buying on the other floors. It’s also pretty funny he pisses off the Mother Bear by making Beh cry. All because he’s greedy and lacks patience towards the baby bear.
Chapter 29
Fortunately, Sejun is around to help smooth things over. Teo and Beh reconcile while Sejun and the rabbits help comfort the nearly killed cat merchant. The day has been so emotionally draining so everyone takes a nap. Mom and Dad rabbit emerge from the cave and spots everyone napping. Somehow Dad rabbit notices the straw hat in Teo’s bag and decides to put it on Sejun’s head. To be fair, the sun can be harsh. What a good friend!
We get some more explanation about Aileen. It’s really interesting to discover that she has some kind of issue with her heart, which could also explain why there’s a limitation of her power as the administrator (along with her age). It is pretty curious why the rest of her clan can’t enter the tower. I hope there’s resolution to this because there’s bound to be a situation that she can’t handle.
Chapter 30
As it turns out maybe Teo really does have some kind of special ability to detect valuable stuff. The straw hat turned out to not only be a rare Tower relic (1 of 10!), but it’s got benefits that specifically work only for a farmer! I look forward to what other potential Sejun will have with this special hat!
It’s pretty neat that finally the new group of babies are born. Though it’s crazy that it’s now day 179, which means Sejun has been in the tower for about 6 months and all this stuff has happened to him.
We also get an introduction to minotaurs and their king who is the floor boss and the one controlling the waypoint on the 99th floor. They’re also out to find something to eat with the blue moon coming. Oh boy. What’s this going to mean for the farm?!
So what do you guys think? I’d like to know what people think of this manhwa series. Also let me know what other series you’d like to me to try doing in the future!
