Headhunted to Another World: From Salaryman to Big Four!
An isekai that's got a lot of interesting job benefits and responsisbilities
So here’s another review about another isekai series that is, in my opinion, an unique concept I haven’t really come across before. Though it’s certainly possible there are other stories with the same premise I’m just not aware of. If you know of another let me know at the bottom.
The Basics
This was originally a manga series that is still ongoing in Japan. The most recent volume released is 10 in Japan. In the US, Seven Seas is releasing the translated manga. Volume 8 is scheduled for release in April 22. The anime just recently finished airing with 12 episodes. It is available on Crunchyroll.
The Premise
Uchimura Denosuke is your typically overburdened salaryman. He’s constantly unappreciated at work by bosses who couldn’t care less about the man or any other employee in their company. He finds himself teleported by a powerful demon overlord in another world! At first he’s confused about the situation (as anyone would). The demon lord makes it clear that he specifically summoned him because Uchimura has ability to improve his budding nation. What could an ordinary salaryman do that powerful demons and skilled demi-humans can’t?
General Thoughts
I can’t lie. This was such a goofy premise, but my curiosity won out and I gave this series a shot. This wasn’t the greatest story and had it’s share of tropes. I do appreciate how Uchimura was able to win over people who were understandably skeptical of a powerless human. His years of trying to solve seemingly impossible problems and knowledge of basic psychology allows him to find solutions to a variety of problems thrown at him.
I won’t say this is a top 10 series for me. However if they made a season 2 I wouldn’t mind giving it a chance. I looked up the manga blurbs. I haven’t read the series. It sounds like the anime covers the first 5 volumes of the manga. So if the ratings were good in Japan, there’s a chance they’ll do a season 2 to cover the other volumes.
The story has a lot of heart to it. And the humor is entertaining. While I do enjoy isekai, this does have some aspects to the story that I’m not a big fan of.
What do you guys think of this series? Have watched this series? Will you watch it if you haven’t?
