A Tender Heart: The Story of How I Became a Duke's Maid [Review]
Imagine you became a self-inset in your favorite story
I actually finished reading this story last year, but it’s only now that I finally got around to writing up a review about this. I think this is a story that doesn’t get enough attention in my opinion. That’s despite the stats in the image above. But let me get on with the show!
The Basics
This story is based on a web novel, which shouldn’t be too surprising to a lot of you. The original novel was written by “jooahri” and the comic was done by “aloha.” I originally read this manhwa on Tapas.io. However you can also read it on Tappytoon if that is your preferred reading app.
The Premise
Like many other similar stories, you have a reader (just like you!) who read typical fantasy story that involves a love triangle. She finds herself sympathizing with the tragic second male lead with an unfair backstory. The reader finds herself transported into that story in the form of a minor background character.
As a housemaid named Evelina, the protagonist finds herself getting more involved in the story than she anticipated. Can her actions change the fate of her favorite character, Liandro? Will Evelina end up with her own happily ever after?
General Thoughts
Some people may feel like Liandro is far too obsessive over Evelina at points in the story. For me, I could accept it. The guy has a pretty messed up background, which would inevitably lead him to become overprotective and easily jealous.
His parents don’t love each other. They’re also pretty vain and reject their only child when he becomes cursed. Most people pity or reject him, which leads to his isolation and inability to interact with people normally.
The ripple effects caused by Evelina’s existence in the story does surprising things to change the fate of many characters in the story. It’s certainly a fascinating story told and pretty thought out storytelling.
As always leave a comment letting me know if you would read this story. Also subscribe to this story for more ramblings about Japanese and Korean comics!
