A Journey Through Another World: Raising Kids While Adventuring
Enjoyable, relaxing isekai that's actually fit for the whole family
Need a delightful, family friendly series? This is one to check out!
The Basics
This series was a novel series published by Alphapolis. As I write this up, there have been 16 volumes released in Japan. So far no one has licensed the novel series into English. I’d honestly be curious to see how this series is in the written novel version.
Alphapolis is also the one publishing the manga. So far there is 9 volumes of the manga, but only 8 volumes have been translated into English. Naturally I have read them. Just this past summer, the anime series finished airing on Crunchyroll. There are 12 episodes. So far there’s been no announcements for a season 2, but it’s possible they might wait until more volumes of the manga are released first.
The Premise
The main characters is Takumi Kayano who was accidentally killed by the god of wind, Sylphyryll. As an apology, he has Takumi teleported to his world Etelldia. Takumi is given a stronger new body and has the potential to learn magic. Takumi travels and explore Etelldia.
Along the way he discovers two abandoned children in the woods. He winds up protecting the twins, Alan and Elena, who are also capable of magic and physical feats not normal for such young children.
The series follows their adventures going through dungeons, fighting monsters, and occasionally cooking tasty dishes previously unknown to Etelldia like curry.
General Thoughts
This series was actually one where I read the manga first before I even knew there was going to be an anime adaptation. I have to say this series is absolutely delightful! I would even recommend this for people to let their kids read if their kids haven’t discovered manga. It’s a really sweet story where we see Takumi acting as their older brother and guardian. I certainly look forward to seeing what other adventures they get into next.
Even though the characters go on adventurers’ quests and dungeon diving, there’s plenty of slice of life moments. It’s pretty enjoyable those moments where this “found family” Takumi and the twins just do regular things together. What’s not relaxing about them cooking together or Takumi teaching them basic arithmetic?
I really can’t wait to see what happens in the future volumes. I also hope we’ll get the light novel. There’s just so many stories where I wish we’d get the light novels.
